Educating and training the academic community and the youth on climate change mitigation
Climate Change is upon us and based on the studies on risks due to climate change, the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world. It is predicted that our country will experience an increase in the frequency and intensity of heat waves, floods, droughts and typhoons; changes in agricultural and marine productivity; reduction in the availability and quality of water; and an increase of occurrence of climate-sensitive infectious diseases.
With these threats, several sectors of society have undertaken projects to raise the awareness of the Filipino, most especially the student, regarding climate change and its potential effects. Earth Day Network Philippines, Inc. (EDNPI) and with other partners are also doing its part in this regard.
The Mini Carbon Olympics is an expansion sub-project of the Zero Basura Olympics dedicated to the cause of climate change mitigation through information and education of the academic community, most especially, students. This project will also provide venues for the different participating academic institutions to share their greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives.
